Umo Eno’s administration in Akwa Ibom State has made significant strides in infrastructure development, boasting the completion of 1,304.722 kilometers of roads and 40 bridges across 107 projects in just three years. This aggressive infrastructure push is a key part of Eno’s strategy to boost economic growth and improve connectivity within the state.
The projects, spanning urban and rural areas, aim to reduce travel time and enhance trade opportunities. Critics, however, have questioned the sustainability of such rapid development, pointing to potential maintenance challenges in the future. "While these projects are commendable, we must also consider how they will be maintained to ensure long-term benefits for our communities," noted Samuel Okon, a local development expert.
As Eno prepares for the next phase of his term, the focus will likely shift to ensuring that these roads and bridges are effectively integrated into broader economic plans. The challenge will be to balance ongoing infrastructure demands with the pressing need for sustainable development and community engagement. If managed well, Eno’s initiatives could serve as a model for infrastructure development across Nigeria.
