Corrections and updates

When a material factual error is confirmed, we correct it promptly and preserve a clear distinction between ordinary story updates and corrections.

Corrections

A correction should identify the material fact that was wrong and the corrected information. Quietly changing a consequential error without a correction note is not acceptable newsroom practice.

Developing stories

Breaking reports naturally change as new facts emerge. Articles may be updated throughout an event, and readers should be able to see when the report was last updated.

Report an error

Readers can use the contact page to flag a possible factual error. Reports should include the story URL and the specific statement being challenged so the desk can review it efficiently.
