In a significant move towards sustainable development, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has enacted three pivotal laws aimed at transforming the energy, agriculture, and climate sectors. The new legislative framework includes the Kaduna State Electricity Law, 2026, the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Fund (KADFund) Law, 2025, and the Kaduna State Climate Change Advisory Board Law, 2026. These initiatives underscore a progressive approach to addressing pressing environmental and economic challenges.
Commissioner for Information and Culture Ahmed Maiyaki highlighted that these laws will "create a robust energy sector, enhance agricultural productivity, and ensure climate resilience." By establishing the KADFund, the government aims to provide financial support for agricultural innovation and infrastructure, while the Climate Change Advisory Board will facilitate strategic planning and policy implementation to mitigate climate risks.
Looking ahead, these legislative actions could position Kaduna State as a leader in sustainable practices within Nigeria. If effectively implemented, they may not only stimulate economic growth but also serve as a model for other states grappling with similar issues, emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to development that integrates energy, agriculture, and climate resilience.
