The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has made a significant financial commitment, disbursing N1.73 billion to over 54,000 pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme. This move comes as a response to ongoing challenges faced by retirees, particularly in light of the recent N32,000 pension increment that aims to alleviate their financial burdens amid rising costs of living.

James Emejo, reporting from Abuja, highlights that this disbursement is part of PTAD's continuous efforts to enhance the welfare of pensioners. "Our mandate is to ensure that pensioners receive their entitlements promptly and without hitches," stated Dr. Chioma Ejikeme, Executive Secretary of PTAD. Her remarks underscore the agency's commitment to transparency and efficiency in managing pension funds, which have historically faced delays and mismanagement.

Looking ahead, this proactive approach by PTAD may serve as a model for improving pension administration across Nigeria. However, the sustainability of such disbursements will depend on consistent government support and reforms aimed at strengthening the pension system, ensuring that retirees receive the benefits they deserve in a timely manner.
