The 2026 Hajj pilgrimage has commenced as the first group of Muslim pilgrims from Ogun State has arrived in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone for the Gateway Airport, which has officially begun its Hajj operations. This year's pilgrimage follows a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the renewed enthusiasm among Nigerian Muslims to fulfill their religious obligations.
The Ogun State government has made considerable efforts to streamline the travel process, ensuring that the pilgrims have a smooth experience. "We are committed to providing the best possible support for our pilgrims, ensuring their safety and comfort as they embark on this spiritual journey," stated Abiodun Abudu, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Ogun State.
With the Gateway Airport now operational for Hajj flights, the hope is to enhance the travel experience for future pilgrims and alleviate overcrowding at other airports. As more flights are scheduled in the coming days, the focus will shift to the welfare of the pilgrims during their stay in Saudi Arabia, as they engage in one of the most significant aspects of their faith.
