In a significant move to enhance the quality of physical and health education in Lagos State, over 150 teachers and games masters from public primary schools are engaged in a two-day capacity-building programme organized by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSSF) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC). This initiative highlights the importance of equipping educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to foster a healthier generation.
The training encompasses various aspects of physical education, ranging from modern teaching methodologies to the promotion of sportsmanship among young learners. According to Dr. Ifeanyi Nwosu, NOC President, “This training is crucial for empowering our educators, ensuring they can inspire and effectively engage their students in physical activities.” Such efforts are pivotal, especially in a society grappling with rising health concerns linked to sedentary lifestyles among children.
Looking ahead, the collaboration between NSSF and NOC suggests a growing recognition of the role that well-trained educators play in shaping the future of youth sports and health education in Nigeria. By investing in teachers, stakeholders are laying a foundation for a more active and health-conscious society, which is essential for the country's overall development.
