In a significant move to bolster Nigeria's workforce, the federal government has launched a vocational and skills acquisition training program aimed at benefiting 18,000 artisans across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative, spearheaded by the National Social Investment Program Agency (NSIPA), reflects a growing recognition of the need for practical skills in an economy grappling with high unemployment rates.

The training will take place across 229 centers, targeting a diverse range of skills that cater to both traditional and emerging industries. Kuni Tyessi, a government spokesperson, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “By empowering our artisans with relevant skills, we are not just enhancing individual livelihoods but also fostering economic growth and sustainability.”

As Nigeria faces mounting economic challenges, programs like NSIPA’s skills training could be pivotal in creating a more resilient workforce. With a focus on practical skills that align with market needs, this initiative holds the potential to stimulate job creation and drive innovation. The success of this program will depend on effective implementation and ongoing support for participants as they transition into the workforce.
