The National Population Commission (NPC) has launched a significant initiative aimed at enhancing public administration in Benue State through the full digital registration of births and deaths. This move, part of the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system, aims to streamline vital statistics collection across all 23 local government areas, a critical step towards improving governance and social services.
The digital registration initiative is expected to tackle long-standing challenges associated with manual record-keeping, which have hampered effective population management and planning. According to Dr. Eyitayo Oyetunji, NPC’s Director of Civil Registration, “This system will ensure that every birth and death is accurately recorded, contributing to better policy-making and resource allocation.”
