Nigeria's oil production has surged beyond its OPEC quota, reaching an 11-month high, fueled by increased output from the Forcados and Bonny oil fields. This boost comes on the heels of a successful turnaround of critical infrastructure, which has allowed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and security agencies to intensify efforts against pipeline vandalism, a persistent issue that has plagued the industry.

In 2025 and the first half of 2026, NNPC reported 24 attacks on pipelines, underscoring the ongoing challenges in ensuring the security of oil assets. "Our collaboration with security agencies is critical in safeguarding our pipelines and ensuring uninterrupted production," stated Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director of NNPC. This proactive approach aims to stabilize output and restore investor confidence in Nigeria's oil sector.

Looking ahead, sustained production levels could position Nigeria as a key player in the global oil market, particularly amidst fluctuating demand. However, the government must continue to address security concerns to maintain momentum and maximize revenue from its rich oil resources.
