The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant drug bust, intercepting 1.63 million Tramadol pills across Edo, Kogi, and Rivers states. This operation led to the arrest of several individuals, including an 80-year-old grandfather and a Chadian national, highlighting the pervasive issue of drug trafficking in Nigeria.
The NDLEA's efforts come amid growing concerns over the increasing abuse of Tramadol and other controlled substances in the region. The agency has ramped up its operations, targeting not only large-scale traffickers but also local distributors, in a bid to curb the drug menace. “This operation reinforces our commitment to combat drug trafficking and protect our youth,” said Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy.
As Nigeria grapples with the dual challenges of drug abuse and trafficking, the NDLEA's proactive measures signal a crucial step in addressing these issues. However, ongoing collaboration with international partners and local communities will be essential to dismantle the networks that facilitate such illegal activities.
