In a striking development, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two grandfathers accused of supplying drugs to secondary school students, highlighting the alarming trend of older individuals engaging in drug trafficking. This operation, which also involved the interception of an illicit consignment from China, underscores the agency's intensified efforts to combat drug abuse among Nigeria's youth.

The NDLEA seized a significant quantity of Loud, a potent cannabis strain, hidden in ladies’ handbags destined for Dubai. This operation resulted in the apprehension of a couple and a 75-year-old grandmother, marking a disturbing shift in the demographics of drug trafficking. "Our commitment to protecting the future of our children is unwavering. We will continue to pursue those who exploit our youth," stated Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy.

As drug cartels evolve their strategies, the involvement of elderly traffickers raises questions about societal values and the pressures that lead to such actions. The NDLEA’s ongoing operations reflect a broader commitment to safeguarding the nation’s youth, yet they also reveal the urgent need for community engagement and education to address the root causes of drug abuse.
