The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has taken a significant step to combat youth unemployment in Cross River by training 500 young individuals and distributing 350 vehicles, including buses and tricycles. This initiative, announced on May 10, 2026, marks a pivotal effort to bolster the local economy and equip young people with essential skills for sustainable livelihoods.
The NDDC's initiative is part of a broader strategy to address persistent unemployment and underemployment in the Niger Delta region, which has long struggled with economic challenges. By providing both training and transportation, the NDDC aims to empower youths and stimulate local business activities. "This program is about creating opportunities and fostering self-reliance among our youth," said Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the NDDC.
Looking ahead, this initiative could serve as a model for similar programs across Nigeria, potentially transforming the economic landscape of the region. By addressing the root causes of unemployment and providing tangible assets, the NDDC is not only investing in the present but also laying the foundation for a more prosperous future for the youth of Cross River.
