The Nigerian Navy has intensified its efforts to combat illegal oil refining, recently securing operational control over critical hotspots in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area. This initiative follows the successful deactivation of illegal refining sites by personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship PATHFINDER on July 10. The persistent challenge of illegal refining has not only threatened the environment but has also fueled regional insecurity and economic instability.
Rear Admiral Akinjide Akinyemi, the Navy's Director of Operations, emphasized the importance of these operations, stating, “Our commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime resources is unwavering. We will continue to dismantle these illegal operations that undermine our economy and security.” The Navy's ongoing efforts are part of broader strategies to restore order and promote sustainable practices within the oil sector.
