The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has taken a decisive stand against the alarming trend of abductions in the country, mobilizing for a nationwide protest in solidarity with the victims in Oyo State. This action follows the kidnapping of several students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, raising concerns about school safety and the government's inability to tackle insecurity.
The protests aim to raise awareness of the escalating violence in educational institutions, which has increasingly become a crisis for students and their families. NANS President, Danielson Bamidele, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “We cannot remain silent while our comrades are abducted. This protest is a wake-up call to the government to prioritize the safety of our schools.”
As the protests gain momentum, they highlight a growing discontent among the youth concerning governmental inaction on security issues. With student safety hanging in the balance, the mobilization reflects a broader call for systemic changes and accountability. The outcomes of these protests could pressure authorities to implement more effective measures to protect educational institutions and their communities, addressing a critical national concern.
