The rollout of Nigeria's National Single Window (NSW) cargo clearing platform is facing significant delays due to persistent challenges at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). These agencies are grappling with backlogs in processing documents, which hinders the timely clearance of goods and disrupts trade operations.
As the NSW aims to streamline import and export processes, the effectiveness of NAFDAC and SON is critical. Stakeholders have expressed concerns over the impact of these delays on the broader economy. “We must address these bottlenecks urgently to ensure that Nigeria remains competitive in global trade,” said Dr. Chinedu Okeke, Executive Director of the Nigerian Importers Association.
Moving forward, the government must prioritize the resolution of these operational issues to enhance efficiency and restore confidence among traders. The NSW holds the promise of transforming Nigeria's trade landscape, but its success hinges on the swift resolution of bureaucratic hurdles that currently impede progress.
