Reno Omokri, Nigeria's nominee ambassador to Mexico, has firmly rejected allegations that Mexico is transforming Nigeria into a drug trafficking hub. Speaking to reporters, Omokri emphasized that such claims are not only unfounded but also detrimental to the diplomatic relationship between the two nations. He expressed concern that perpetuating these narratives could undermine cooperation in areas like trade and security.
The comments come amid increasing scrutiny of drug-related activities linked to Mexican cartels, which has raised fears in Nigeria about becoming a transit point for narcotics. However, Omokri pointed out that the relationship between Nigeria and Mexico should be viewed through a lens of partnership and mutual respect. "We must not allow misinformation to overshadow the potential benefits of our bilateral relations," he stated.
