In a decisive move to restore order, the Lagos State Task Force has issued a 72-hour eviction notice to street traders and illegal occupants along Alaba Rago on the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway. This action reflects ongoing efforts by the state government to tackle urban congestion and improve traffic flow in a city grappling with rapid population growth and informal economies.

The notice comes amid concerns over safety and sanitation, as street trading has proliferated in these areas, often leading to clashes between traders and enforcement agencies. “We are committed to creating a conducive environment for all Lagosians, and this includes removing illegal structures that obstruct our roads,” stated Tunde Ope, Director of the Lagos State Task Force. The government's aim is not only to clear the streets but also to facilitate planned development in the region.

Looking ahead, the effectiveness of this eviction will depend on the government's approach to provide alternative livelihoods for displaced traders. Balancing urban development with the needs of vulnerable populations remains a critical challenge for Lagos as it seeks sustainable growth in the face of increasing urban pressures.
