Kwara State's transport unions are sounding the alarm over the deteriorating state of crucial infrastructure, specifically abandoned bridges that threaten road safety and economic stability. The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) have formally appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for urgent intervention, emphasizing the potential disruption to transportation networks and local commerce.
The unions highlighted that the neglected bridges have led to increased travel time and vehicle wear and tear, ultimately affecting their livelihoods. "We are calling on the president to prioritize these critical repairs, as they directly impact the lives and businesses of our members," stated Ganiyu Adebayo, NURTW Kwara State Chairman. Their plea underscores a growing frustration among transport workers who rely on functional infrastructure for their day-to-day operations.
