In a grim reflection of the ongoing security crisis in Nigeria, kidnappers of members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Kwara State have escalated their demands from an initial ransom of N20 million to a staggering N300 million. This alarming development underscores the growing audacity of criminal enterprises in the region, which have increasingly targeted vulnerable communities, leveraging fear and desperation to extract wealth. As the nation grapples with a spate of kidnappings for ransom, the plight of the ECWA members highlights a broader crisis that affects not only individual families but also the stability and economic vitality of the region.

The incident, which has drawn significant media attention, began when a group of armed men abducted several church members during a service. In a surprising turn, the kidnappers initially accepted a ransom payment of N20 million, along with additional provisions that included five bags of rice, 120 liters of petrol, one keg of red oil, a packet of seasoning, and N40,000 worth of hard drugs.
