In a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria's aviation sector, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has launched a new Aircraft Leasing Company aimed at supporting local airlines. This initiative comes after significant progress in resolving compliance issues with the Cape Town Convention, which facilitates aircraft financing and leasing.

Keyamo emphasized the importance of this development, stating, "This leasing company will provide our airlines with the necessary tools to thrive and expand, ultimately boosting the economy." The establishment of this company is expected to reduce the financial burden on airlines that struggle with high costs associated with acquiring aircraft. By enhancing access to affordable leasing options, the government aims to revitalize the domestic aviation industry, which has faced numerous challenges, including operational inefficiencies and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking ahead, the success of this initiative will depend on effective implementation and collaboration between the government and private sector stakeholders. If executed well, the Aircraft Leasing Company could not only bolster Nigeria’s aviation capabilities but also enhance regional connectivity and economic growth in the long term.
