Kebbi State has launched a significant agricultural initiative, distributing 110 truckloads of fertiliser and improved seeds to benefit around 120,000 farmers. This move comes amid ongoing efforts to boost food production and enhance the livelihoods of local farmers who have faced challenges due to climate change and economic constraints.
The distribution program, which began on July 1, 2026, aims to empower farmers with the necessary resources to increase crop yields. According to Abubakar Gwandu, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, “This initiative is not just about providing inputs; it is about ensuring food security and improving the overall economic situation in Kebbi.” The program underscores the government's commitment to supporting agricultural resilience and productivity in a region heavily reliant on farming.
As the distribution progresses, stakeholders will be watching closely to evaluate its impact on local agriculture and food security. If successful, this initiative could serve as a model for other states facing similar agricultural challenges, potentially transforming the farming landscape in Nigeria and contributing to national self-sufficiency in food production.
