A recent report reveals Kano State tops the quality of life index among Nigerian states, while Cross River ranks at the bottom, highlighting significant regional disparities. Conducted between April and May 2026, the survey included 442 respondents from Abuja, Anambra, Bauchi, Cross River, Kano, Lagos, Oyo, and Rivers, assessing various quality-of-life factors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Kano's strong performance is attributed to improvements in public services and community engagement, which have fostered a sense of security and economic opportunity. In contrast, Cross River's shortcomings in essential services and economic stagnation have led to its low ranking. “This report underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions in underperforming states to uplift their quality of life,” stated Dr. Ifeoma Nwosu, a researcher at the Nigerian Institute of Policy Studies.
As Nigeria grapples with developmental challenges, this analysis serves as a crucial wake-up call for state governments. Moving forward, a concerted effort to address disparities could lead to improved living conditions nationwide, fostering a more equitable society.
