A recent report by Premium Times has revealed that Kano State offers the best quality of life among major Nigerian states, while Cross River ranks as the worst. This survey, conducted between April and May 2026, analyzed the experiences of 442 respondents from states including Abuja, Anambra, Bauchi, Lagos, Oyo, and Rivers. The findings highlight significant disparities in living conditions and public services across the country.
Kano's high ranking is attributed to better infrastructure, healthcare, and security, fostering a more favorable environment for its residents. In contrast, Cross River's low position reflects ongoing challenges such as inadequate healthcare facilities and poor road networks. “We must prioritize sustainable development to uplift states like Cross River,” said Dr. Amina Bello, a socio-economic analyst.
As the government contemplates policies to enhance living standards, this report underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions in lagging states. By learning from Kano's success, policymakers can create frameworks that address the unique challenges faced by regions like Cross River, aiming for a more equitable distribution of resources and services across Nigeria.
