The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has opened its portal for candidates to change their institutions or courses following the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This initiative is a significant step towards accommodating the diverse needs of students, especially in a rapidly evolving educational landscape. Candidates now have the flexibility to adjust their academic trajectories based on their performance and changing aspirations.
Since the introduction of the UTME, students have faced challenges in securing placements in their preferred institutions, often leading to frustration and disillusionment. JAMB's decision to allow changes is expected to alleviate some of these pressures. According to Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of JAMB, “This portal is designed to give candidates a second chance to pursue their dreams, ensuring that no one is left behind in their educational journey.”
Looking ahead, this move could potentially enhance student satisfaction and retention rates in Nigerian universities. By enabling candidates to make informed decisions about their academic futures, JAMB is fostering a more adaptable educational environment that reflects the aspirations of a new generation of learners.
