The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has raised an alarm over the alarming rise in violent attacks against operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), a situation that threatens Nigeria's anti-drug efforts. In recent months, there have been multiple reported assaults on NDLEA personnel, underscoring the dangerous environment in which they operate. HURIWA is calling for the establishment of a special hazard fund to support these operatives as they face increasing risks in their fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
The association's national coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "The safety of NDLEA operatives is paramount to sustaining our fight against the drug menace."
