The airlift of Nigerian pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage officially commenced today, marking a significant logistical effort by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. The first flight, MaxAir flight NGL267, took off from Jeddah to Abuja carrying 560 pilgrims from Nasarawa State. This operation comes after the Commission's extensive preparations, aimed at ensuring a smooth and efficient pilgrimage experience for Nigerian Muslims.
In a statement, Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan, Chairman of the National Hajj Commission, expressed optimism about the process: “We are committed to making this year’s Hajj the best experience for our pilgrims, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout their journey.” This year, the Commission has implemented new measures to streamline operations, including improved coordination with airlines and enhanced support services at airports.
As the airlift progresses, the focus will shift to addressing any challenges that arise, particularly given the large number of pilgrims expected. With the Hajj being a deeply spiritual journey for many, the success of this operation will be crucial in reinforcing Nigeria's commitment to supporting its citizens in fulfilling their religious obligations.
