The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has achieved a significant milestone by securing accreditation for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program after a protracted five-year effort. This approval by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) marks a turning point for the institution, which has faced setbacks in meeting necessary educational standards.

The MDCN's recent visit to FUTA culminated in the long-awaited approval, which officials believe will enhance the university's ability to produce qualified medical professionals. “This accreditation is not just a win for FUTA but for the entire region, as it opens doors for aspiring medical students who deserve quality education,” stated Professor Adebayo Adegoke, Vice-Chancellor of FUTA. The accreditation ensures that graduates will meet the rigorous demands of the medical field and contribute positively to healthcare in Nigeria.

Looking ahead, FUTA plans to leverage this achievement to attract more students and faculty, potentially elevating its status as a leading medical education provider in Nigeria. This development could also inspire other institutions to focus on meeting accreditation standards, ultimately benefiting the nation’s healthcare system.
