As Nigeria braces for the impending flood season, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has initiated a response campaign in Rivers State, underscoring the urgency of preparedness. During a recent stakeholders’ engagement in Port Harcourt, NEMA's Director-General, Zubaida Umar, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to mitigate potential disasters, stating, “We must come together to ensure that our communities are protected and informed.”

The campaign aims to enhance awareness and readiness among local populations, particularly in areas prone to flooding. Rivers State has historically faced challenges during the rainy season, with previous floods leading to significant displacement and infrastructural damage. This proactive approach by NEMA reflects a growing recognition of the need for resilience in the face of climate-related threats.

Looking ahead, the effectiveness of this campaign will depend on community involvement and the timely mobilization of resources. As local governments and organizations rally to support NEMA’s efforts, there is hope that improved preparedness can reduce the devastating impact of floods in the region, ultimately safeguarding lives and livelihoods during this critical period.
