The Nigerian Federal Government has launched the dualisation of the Gombe–Biu Super Highway, a critical infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity in the northeastern region. This highway is part of the larger Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri corridor, which is expected to spur economic growth and improve access to essential services.
At the flag-off ceremony, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State emphasized the need for unity in addressing the region's security challenges. He cautioned against politicising insecurity, stating, “We must work together to ensure that our projects do not become platforms for political manipulation.” His remarks underscore the delicate balance between infrastructure development and the ongoing security issues that have plagued the area.
As the project unfolds, it will be crucial for stakeholders to maintain focus on the broader implications for regional stability and economic revitalization. The successful completion of the Gombe–Biu highway could signal a turning point for northeastern Nigeria, fostering trade and enhancing mobility, provided that the security situation is managed effectively.
