In a decisive move to combat corruption and curb cost inflation, the Nigerian Federal Government has unveiled stringent new guidelines from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) regarding contract variations in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). These guidelines mandate that all contract variations must receive prior certification, aiming to ensure greater transparency and accountability in public spending.
This initiative comes in response to widespread concerns about unapproved contract modifications that have historically inflated project costs and fueled corruption. Stakeholders in the construction and public procurement sectors have welcomed the reforms, emphasizing the need for oversight. "These guidelines are a critical step towards ensuring that public funds are used effectively and responsibly," said Dr. Chinedu Okafor, Executive Director of the Procurement Integrity Organization.
