The launch of the National Youth in Agribusiness Land Trust Fund (YiALTF) marks a significant step towards empowering Nigeria's youth in agriculture, a sector crucial for national development. Spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) in collaboration with the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), this initiative aims to provide young entrepreneurs with access to land and resources necessary for agribusiness ventures.
With the youth making up a large portion of Nigeria's population, the initiative addresses pressing unemployment and food security issues. By facilitating access to land, the YiALTF is expected to stimulate agricultural innovation and productivity. As Professor Nteranya Sanginga, Director General of IITA, stated, "Investing in our youth is investing in the future of food and sustainability in Africa."
Looking ahead, the success of this fund will depend on effective implementation and collaboration with private sector partners. If managed well, the YiALTF could transform Nigeria's agricultural landscape, turning young Nigerians into pivotal players in the continent's quest for food security and economic resilience.
