The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced new bye-laws aimed at modernizing the country’s aviation framework. Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku emphasized that the previous regulations, last updated in 2005, had become ineffective in the face of evolving industry demands. This move comes as Nigeria seeks to enhance its aviation sector, critical for economic growth and international competitiveness.

The 2025 bye-laws focus on key areas such as safety, security, and customer service, reflecting global best practices. Kuku noted, “These bye-laws are designed to create a safer and more efficient aviation environment, ensuring that we keep pace with international standards and respond effectively to emerging challenges.” This proactive approach aims to not only improve operational efficiency but also attract more foreign investment.

As Nigeria positions itself as a regional aviation hub, the successful implementation of these new bye-laws will be crucial. Stakeholders will be watching closely to see how FAAN navigates the complexities of enforcement and compliance, which will ultimately determine the bye-laws' impact on the nation’s aviation landscape. The future of Nigeria's aviation industry hinges on this regulatory evolution.
