Enugu State is taking bold steps to enhance its tourism profile with a series of ambitious infrastructure projects aimed at attracting both local and international visitors. Recently, the government approved a significant development plan that includes the construction of 1,000 housing units at Enugu Smart City and an impressive 18,000 mass housing units at Gateway Estate. In addition, a cable car system with platforms at Okpatu, Awhum, and Awgu, along with the Ovu Lake Golf Resort at Akpawfu, is set to elevate the state's appeal.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi emphasized the importance of these projects, stating, "These developments are not just about housing; they will transform Enugu into a major tourism hub in Nigeria." This initiative is part of a broader strategy to leverage Enugu’s natural beauty and cultural heritage while addressing housing shortages.
