The Defence Industry Association of Nigeria (DIAN) has taken a pivotal step in bolstering the nation’s defence capabilities by inaugurating a committee dedicated to advancing local manufacturing. This initiative responds to Nigeria's growing need for self-reliance in military production amidst rising security challenges. The committee is tasked with developing strategies to enhance the indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign imports.
Historically, Nigeria has faced hurdles in establishing a robust defence industry, often dependent on external suppliers for military equipment. This new committee seeks to overcome these challenges by fostering collaboration between government, military, and private sector stakeholders. “We are committed to transforming Nigeria into a manufacturing hub for defence equipment, ensuring our armed forces are equipped with home-grown solutions,” stated Dr. Ayo Akinyemi, President of DIAN.
As the committee embarks on its mission, the potential for greater technological innovation and economic growth in Nigeria’s defence sector appears promising.
