The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched the Simplified Customs Advanced Declaration System (SCADS) to streamline the airport declaration process, addressing longstanding delays in passenger clearance. This initiative, unveiled at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, represents a significant step towards enhancing operational efficiency and compliance in an era where digital solutions are vital for modern governance.

The SCADS aims to reduce the time passengers spend at customs by allowing them to declare their goods electronically before arrival. This system is expected to minimize human error and enhance transparency, making the customs process smoother for travelers. “We believe that with SCADS, the entire customs experience will be faster and more efficient, which is crucial for our growing international traffic,” said Hameed Ali, the Comptroller-General of NCS.

As Nigeria continues to adapt to global standards in customs operations, the introduction of SCADS could serve as a model for similar initiatives across the country. By embracing technology, the NCS not only aims to improve passenger experiences but also to strengthen national security through better monitoring and compliance.
