Contractors in Nigeria are pushing back against the Federal Government’s assertion that N700 billion has been disbursed to them, reigniting protests at the Finance Ministry. The All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) insists that many of them have yet to receive any payments, highlighting ongoing grievances in the construction sector.

The controversy follows months of negotiations and promises from the government to settle outstanding debts owed to contractors. AICAN’s president, Chukwudi Ijeoma, stated, “We are tired of empty promises. The government claims to have released funds, yet our members are still waiting for payments that are long overdue.” This statement reflects widespread frustration among contractors who believe that the government is not being transparent about the financial situation.

As the protests continue, the unresolved payments could hinder infrastructure projects across Nigeria and exacerbate economic challenges. The government's ability to address these claims will be critical not only for restoring trust with contractors but also for ensuring that vital projects move forward. Without swift action, the potential for further unrest looms, complicating an already fragile economic landscape.
