The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Anambra state has issued a stern ultimatum, threatening to cease operations if a kidnapped doctor is not released within 48 hours. This alarming decision comes in response to the rising trend of abductions targeting healthcare professionals in Nigeria, particularly in regions plagued by insecurity.

The NMA's action follows the abduction of Dr. Chukwudi Okafor, a respected member of the medical community, underscoring the dangers faced by doctors in their line of work. "We can no longer remain silent while our members are routinely targeted and endangered," stated Dr. Ayo Akinwunmi, President of the Anambra NMA. The threat to strike is a reflection of the desperation felt within the medical community and highlights the urgent need for government intervention to ensure the safety of healthcare workers.

As the deadline looms, the NMA's stance may push authorities to take immediate action to secure Dr. Okafor's release. This situation not only endangers the lives of medical professionals but also raises concerns about the availability of healthcare services in a state already grappling with significant challenges.
