The Federal Government's reluctance to provide necessary support has left Amotekun in a precarious position. As a result, the outfit has struggled to recruit and retain personnel, with many expressing dissatisfaction with their compensation and working conditions. Olayinka Ogunleye, a member of the Amotekun board, highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, "Without proper funding and support, we cannot achieve our mandate to protect our communities."
As insecurity continues to escalate in Nigeria, particularly in the Southwest, the future of Amotekun hangs in the balance. If the regional government does not address these funding and welfare issues, the initiative may falter, undermining efforts to combat crime and maintain peace.
