In a significant boost to Nigeria's agricultural sector, One Acre Fund has commenced the distribution of 9,000 tonnes of agricultural inputs on credit to 88,000 smallholder farmers across Nasarawa and Niger states. This initiative aims to enhance crop yields and improve national food security, addressing the pressing challenges posed by climate change and economic instability.
The program represents a strategic move to empower smallholder farmers, who are essential to Nigeria's agricultural output. By providing access to quality seeds and fertilizers, One Acre Fund seeks to increase productivity and reduce poverty among rural communities. "This support will transform lives and ensure that our farmers can meet the growing demands of our population," said John Okoro, Regional Director for One Acre Fund Nigeria.
Looking ahead, this initiative not only promises to uplift the lives of farmers but also has the potential to stabilize food prices in the region. As Nigeria grapples with food insecurity, the success of this program could serve as a model for similar agricultural interventions across Africa, fostering resilience and sustainability in farming practices.
