In a significant boost to financial literacy among youth, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) has announced that 12 schools have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2026 tax club quiz. This initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, aims to enhance students' understanding of taxation and its role in governance.
The competition is designed to engage students actively in discussions about taxes, fostering a culture of responsibility and awareness. "This quiz is not just about competition; it’s about empowering our youth with knowledge that will shape their understanding of civic duties," said Dr. Fatima Abubakar, Director of KW-IRS. The selected schools will now prepare for a more rigorous examination of their tax knowledge, which could set a precedent for future educational initiatives in the region.
Looking ahead, the KW-IRS program could serve as a model for similar initiatives across Nigeria, potentially transforming how young citizens perceive their role in the economy. By emphasizing the importance of taxation, the KW-IRS is not only promoting academic excellence but also cultivating informed future taxpayers.
